74 guests enjoyed a locally sourced breakfast last Saturday all sponsored by the Haslemere South West Surrey Farmer’s Market. The team of volunteer chefs, farmer producers and helpers served a menu made up of the very best of local Farmers’ Market produce including: Porridge, Muesli, Apple Juice, Toast, Honey, Marmalade, accompanied by either; ‘The Haslemere English’ a full cooked breakfast – Sausage, Bacon and Egg or a Smoked Haddock Kedgeree.
Hunter Centre Trustee, farmer & local food producer, Margaret Barlow, welcomed guests, including Dr Anne Hunter, to sit together, relax and enjoy the most important meal of the day – Breakfast.
Ticket sales for the Farmers’ Market Breakfast, donations and a raffle for two Farmers’ Market ‘Veg Boxes’ all helped to raise £1,000. The Farmers’ Market took the opportunity to launch and talk about their new Veg Box scheme: Orders via the website www.surreyfarmersmarkets.org or contacting 07528 758087 for collection at Haslemere or Milford Farmers’ Markets each month.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness and funds for The Hunter Centre; which supports those living with dementia at the day care facility. Funds raised will be used to support the invaluable work of The Hunter Centre, providing respite care in an understanding and supportive community to those suffering from dementia and for their carers.
Anne Downing, Chairman of The Hunter Centre, commented: “I was delighted to hear so many first-time breakfast guests say how delicious it was and what a wonderful event. I hope this raises both awareness of the fantastic food we have produced so close to Haslemere, which we can buy from our local farmers’ markets, and the Day Centre where the event was held. A huge ‘thank you’ to all who took part, providing the produce, setting up, waiting on tables and clearing away as well as to everyone who attended”.
Our next Farmers’ Markets are: Haslemere 1st Sunday of the Month, Milford 3rd Sunday of the Month & Godalming last Saturday - March to October.
