65 guests sat down to a very special breakfast with The Mayor of Haslemere, Councillor Malcolm Carter, last Saturday at The Hunter Centre in Haslemere.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness and funds for the Mayor’s 3 chosen Charities and for The Hunter Centre; which supports those living with dementia at the day care facility. Ticket Sales for the Farmhouse Breakfast and a raffle (for a Farmers’ Market Hamper and vouchers) raised over £900 – this will be shared between The Mayor’s chosen Charities and The Hunter Centre which will receive half the proceeds.

Trustee & local producer, Margaret Barlow was on hand and welcomed guests, including Dr Anne Hunter, to sit together, relax and enjoy the most important meal of the day – a proper breakfast.

The Charity Farmhouse Breakfast event was organised and sponsored by South West Surrey Farmers’ Market Co-operative. The breakfast involved local Haslemere Farmers’ Market producers and volunteers who prepared, cooked and served a menu made up of the very best of local Farmers’ Market produce.  Guests were offered Porridge, Muesli, Apple Juices, Croissant, Toast, Honey, Marmalade, Tea & Coffee followed by either; ‘The Haslemere English’ a full cooked breakfast or a Smoked Haddock Kedgeree.

The Mayor, Councillor Malcolm Carter said about the event; ‘It was a great start with a full Haslemere Breakfast for all my party of nine friends. And it was good to see the Hunter Centre full supporting local charities and everyone eating locally produced food.’

Afterwards, Chairman of The Hunter Centre Trustees, Anne Downing, also commented; “I’m really pleased with the response to our first ever charity breakfast. It was a pleasure to welcome people to The Hunter Centre who had not previously had the opportunity to visit and for them to meet our manager Elaine Clement and see the marvellous facilities we have there. We have already had requests as to when the next Farmhouse breakfast can be held!”
